At Springmoor, improving all aspects of community functioning is our continual goal. We are committed to being thoughtful stewards of our resources—financial, physical, and human—so that we can continue to enhance the quality of care, services, and facilities available to our residents. Executive Director Brad Dilday says, “Every decision we make is guided by a simple question: Does this action strengthen the experience and well-being of those who live here?”
One important resource that helps our employees answer this question is LeadingAge, a national and state-level organization representing nonprofit senior living and continuing care retirement communities like Springmoor. LeadingAge serves as a powerful advocate for communities dedicated to mission-driven senior care, and their work directly supports our ability to operate responsibly and sustainably. “They also help ensure our community is in compliance with an evolving regulatory environment,” Brad says.
In a recent report, LeadingAge highlighted accomplishments from 2025 that are especially meaningful for communities like Springmoor. Among them were:
Protection of critical funding for senior care services.
Active shaping of federal policies affecting aging services.
Amplification of provider voices nationwide.
Securing a nine-year moratorium on nursing home minimum staffing mandates.
Submission of more than 130 regulatory relief recommendations.
Participation of 718 members in policy pulse calls.
Holding 270 lobbying meetings with lawmakers and federal officials.
“These efforts help ensure that regulations remain balanced,” Brad explains, “meaning that they support quality care without placing undue burdens on nonprofit retirement communities.”
Closer to home, LeadingAge also provided a clear and practical summary of changes to Article 64A of Chapter 58 of the North Carolina General Statutes (G.S. 58-64A, which governs Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRCs) in our state. This quick reference sheet has been an invaluable tool for Springmoor staff as we work to remain compliant while staying focused on resident-centered care.
“Springmoor is proud of our partnership with LeadingAge,” says Brad. “Their commitment to advocacy, education, and workforce development directly aligns with our own mission as a nonprofit community.”
Just as LeadingAge is committed to strengthening the future of senior living, we at Springmoor are committed to investing in the people, systems, and partnerships that allow our community to thrive. We remain focused on continuous improvement, responsible planning, and above all, on serving all residents with excellence, integrity, and compassion.
Key Takeaways from the LeadingAge North Carolina Leadership Summit
In 2025, Assistant Executive Director Jessica Pagan attended the LeadingAge North Carolina Leadership Summit. This gathering focused on how leadership must adapt and grow in today’s ever-changing world. She says, “One of the key takeaways for me was that we cannot lead the same way we have always led. Leadership requires us to shift.”
Leadership is not defined only by title at Springmoor. It is found in our staff members who go above and beyond to serve with compassion, and it is also found in our residents who lead through kindness and wisdom. Leadership is a partnership—between staff and residents, experience and fresh ideas, tradition and innovation.
“At Springmoor, leadership revolves around the way staff and residents lift one another up,” says Jessica. “We strive to cultivate a sense of connection, growth, and belonging.” She adds, “Strong leadership shapes a community where every voice, act of kindness, and shared moment helps guide us forward together”
The Leadership Summit further emphasized the importance of moving “from soloist to conductor”—shifting from “me” to “we.” “The practice of this philosophy reflects what makes Springmoor special,” Jessica adds. “Each day, we see residents encouraging one another, sharing stories, and building a sense of community that is greater than the sum of its parts. Our staff also embody this shift, working together across departments to make daily life run smoothly and warmly.”
Growth Is a Life-Long Process
Another idea from the summit that has stayed with Jessica is: “Improving yourself is the first step in improving everything else.” She says growth does not stop with age or position; it is a lifelong process. “Our residents, with their resilience and wisdom, continue to model growth for all of us, while our team strives to learn, adapt, and serve with excellence.”
True leadership is not about power—it is about adding value to the lives of others. At Springmoor, we are proud to say that leadership lives here, from the halls within to the walking paths of our beautiful campus. Together, staff and residents show us that leadership is less about the individual and more about the community we create together.
