If you often read our blog, you know Executive Director Brandon Hair launched a new opportunity in March 2024 for residents to provide feedback directly to the administration. Coffee & Conversation is held regularly (approximately every other month), and refreshments are served. The location alternates between South Village and North Village.
Attendance has been strong at these fun, informal gatherings. Residents can ask Brandon questions and make suggestions about all things Springmoor. Other refreshments such as ham biscuits are provided in addition to coffee.
Brandon relishes interacting with residents and developing long-lasting relationships with them. No resident concern is too small or too large for him to address. He truly enjoys learning from our diverse and talented residents and employees, and his servant/leader approach is an inspiration to many of our staff.
Since our second Coffee & Conversation in North Village in May 2024, two subsequent events have been held. Residents who were unable to attend these events, as well as individuals on our waitlist, will appreciate the recap below of some of the questions asked and answers provided.
As you can see from the details of this Q&A, Springmoor is a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) that provides a wide range of services, amenities, and facilities, as well as a full continuum of healthcare. Included in your monthly service package is your maintenance-free apartment, villa, or home. We cover it all, inside and out (exclusive of your personal property). Let our dedicated staff take care of home repairs, yard work, and other chores!
Question: When will the new chiller (HVAC system) be ordered for South Village?
Answer: The chiller will be ordered this fall and installed by next summer. There is a 45-week turnaround after placing the order. Also, we will order a new chiller for North Village next year with the same plan and timeframe.
Question: Has Springmoor considered purchasing a battery-powered vehicle for campus transportation?
Answer: We have not yet put serious thought into this subject, but it has been briefly explored. We will continue to investigate this option more closely as the technology improves, and we are able to identify an option that is well-suited to our community’s needs.
Question: Can Springmoor install a sidewalk going down the hill behind Valley Drive toward the pool and bistro?
Answer: Brandon did not realize this had been such a big topic of conversation among residents. After speaking with the Building and Grounds Committee and other staff, it was decided not to pursue this project now, as it is very costly. Unfortunately, there are many factors that go into installing a sidewalk other than clearing a path and pouring concrete. In the meantime, we suggest using a different route when walking. We are also asking all residents to please drive slowly around the curve.
Question: Can Springmoor put up a one-way sign as you travel up the hill from Valley Dr.?
Answer: Yes, we will order one to install.
Question: Can a handrail be installed on the walkway between the two parking lots in front of Creedmoor Rd.?
Answer: We will investigate how much it would cost and discuss this with the Building and Grounds committee.
Question: Will the new pool servicing company be overseeing the hot tub as well?
Answer: Yes, they will be taking care of maintaining the hot tub and pool daily.
Question: Can Springmoor buy smaller pet waste bags for the receptacles?
Answer: Yes, we accidentally order the wrong size, and we plan to use our inventory before ordering the correct size.
Question: Will the Stewart Health Center’s horseshoe driveway be paved soon?
Answer: Yes. Once all construction is finished in the area, the horseshoe at the health center entrance will be paved.
Question: Do the exterminators come on a regular basis?
Answer: Yes, they come every Friday. If you have a particular pest problem, please put in a work order, and maintenance will make sure they come by your residence.
Question: Why is there not an automatic door at physical therapy?
Answer: That is a great question! Brandon did not know and will work with maintenance and our contractors to see if one can be installed.
Question: Is the dining staff trained in the Heimlich maneuver?
Answer: Staff have been trained before, but we will work to implement an annual or bi-annual training for all dining staff to ensure as many are trained as possible on a regular basis.
Question: If residents have a doctor located outside of the community, can they still be seen in the Springmoor clinic?
Answer: Yes. The clinic is staffed seven days each week with nurses, and a nurse practitioner is there four days each week. Any resident can visit the clinic.
Question: Why does Springmoor not have defibrillators throughout the community?
Answer: Springmoor has portable defibrillators. When nurses respond to an emergency call, they carry a defibrillator in their emergency pack or cart.
Brandon also asked for suggestions regarding new, different activities they would like to have offered. Several residents asked that overnight trips be considered as an activity offering. One resident mentioned they would like to have the option to attend more caregiver and grief counseling support groups. These are good suggestions that Brandon will discuss with the Pathways team.
