What Makes Springmoor a Unique CCRC

What Makes Springmoor a Unique CCRC

Springmoor combines a 42-acre wooded campus, more than 40 years of local trust, nationally recognized care, vibrant independent living, and a full continuum of health services in one welcoming northwest Raleigh community. Our staff’s long tenure is perhaps the single most important factor that sets our community apart.

The familiar, caring faces of employees who serve residents year after year are the heart of our community’s success. Each year, we are proud to recognize dozens of team members at our employee anniversary celebration. We express our gratitude to our employees who give so much every day, by honoring staff with work anniversaries of 3, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, and 35+ years of service in the presence of their fellow team members.

One example of the many employees who have served our community for decades is Priscilla Frazier, who works in our Stewart Health Center (SHC). A past winner of Employee of the Year, Priscilla has been a member of the Springmoor staff for close to 40 years. She monitors all four SHC kitchens and supervises about 10 full- and part-time staff.

You’ll often hear residents and staff alike say our community is “like a family.” Priscilla says, “The residents have always been very special to me, and they treat me the same way.”

Phyllis Mayo, a resident who was also Springmoor’s chaplain and worked at the community for 36 years, has known Priscilla for decades. Phyllis recently asked Priscilla why she has stayed so long at Springmoor. “I told Phyllis that it’s simple,” she says. “I stayed because I love all of you.”

Selecting a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) is one of the most important decisions an older adult can make. They and their families need to feel secure in the knowledge that any future care needs will be met on the same campus by experienced staff who are invested in the success of the community.

“Where do you find such wonderful employees?”

Residents and their families often ask, “Where do you find such wonderful employees?” A primary strategy we use to secure outstanding employees is empowering our hiring managers and supervisors to interview and select new staff members.

Like an experienced coach in the world of sports, our department managers know their existing team best. And, they understand the skills and characteristics required for each position they need to fill better than anyone else.

The manager who will be supervising a new employee is the best person to decide who to hire; they have the first-hand knowledge to help them determine which candidate will work well with their existing team and be the ideal fit for each open position. They also know how to motivate each staff member to get the best results based on their strengths and weaknesses.

In addition to fostering a positive work environment, the management team at Springmoor supports and nurtures the staff we hire. Our employees attend conferences, participate in continuing education, and take advantage of networking events, among other opportunities that help them grow as valued members of the team.

Springmoor management also prioritizes promoting from within when talented employees are ready to take the next step in their careers. A few employees who have been promoted to senior management positions at Springmoor due to their hard work and dedication are Debbie Sivnksty, Director of Nursing; Jacob Hollingsworth, Director of Security/Transportation; Kari Richie, Pathways Wellness Director, and our Executive Director, Brad Dilday (formerly our Associate Director).

What Is a CCRC, and Why Does It Matter for Raleigh Families?

A CCRC (also called a Life Plan Community) offers housing and services for older adults across multiple stages of aging. Making the move to Springmoor is a real estate decision, a healthcare decision, and a lifestyle decision all rolled into one. As Raleigh’s first full-service Life Plan Community, life on our campus offers independence today, support tomorrow, and a clear plan for the years in between.

Residents typically move into an apartment, house, or villa and live independently. If their needs change, they can access assisted living, skilled nursing, memory care, or rehabilitation services without a disruptive move. If one partner in a couple needs a different level of care, he or she remains just a short walk away, surrounded by familiar faces.

For adult children, the CCRC model can reduce uncertainty. Instead of wondering what will happen if a parent needs more help, families can evaluate the care continuum, contract structure, financial disclosures, service philosophy, and campus culture before a crisis occurs. The North Carolina Department of Insurance notes that continuing care laws are designed to support disclosure before a contract is executed, making research and comparison especially important.

Most people begin their search while they are still active, independent, and ready to leave chores behind. They may want to stop managing yardwork, doing home repairs, and cooking three times a day so they can spend more time traveling, volunteering, learning, exercising, or enjoying family.

Springmoor offers extensive amenities, such as our Pathways Wellness Center, a heated indoor saltwater pool, walking trails, our Meraki Arts Studio, a woodworking shop, a movie theatre, a library with thousands of volumes, individual gardening plots, and so much more. Our campus is not just a place to live; it is an intentionally designed community with a rich culture of caring that makes each day easier, more connected, and more fulfilling.

Many Second Generation Springmoor Residents Call Our Campus Home

Approximately 40 of our current residents have a parent or other older relative who lived at Springmoor before them. “People are usually astonished by the large number of second-generation residents we have,” says Beth Holden, Director of Sales & Marketing. “This is one of the greatest testaments to our strength as a community.”

Second generation resident Barbara Smith moved to our campus in 2020. She remembers frequently visiting her mother, who enjoyed 21 happy years as a resident, first in her own apartment and then in supportive living. Her mom died three weeks short of her 100th birthday.

“I’m like my mom,” Barbara says. “I enjoy every minute of it here. It’s the best place you can be when you retire because there’s always something to do. It’s just a fun place to live…. The staff has always really cared about the residents.”

A combination of our rich history and our commitment to constant improvement sets Springmoor apart. We have served Raleigh retirees for more than 40 years, and residents and their families can have confidence in our ability to provide exceptional services.

While honoring our past, Springmoor continues to invest in innovation and improvements in multiple areas such as wellness, dining, social connection, and healthcare. We have received national recognition as well as local awards, and we pride ourselves on maintaining a community culture where neighbors become close friends.

How Does Springmoor Support Wellness, Friendship, and Purpose?

Wellness at Springmoor goes way beyond our multi-faceted program of group fitness classes, swimming pools, and exercise equipment. We offer a holistic approach with events, activities, and programs that support intellectual, spiritual, physical, social, emotional, nutritional, vocational, and environmental well-being.

Healthy aging is about much more than managing medical needs. Living your best life means staying curious, nurturing  relationships, exercising regularly, eating well, sharing your skills, and having a deep sense of belonging.

Residents can participate in a wide range of exercise classes, aquatics, lifelong learning, art classes, cultural outings, social gatherings, gardening, woodworking, volunteering, and a plethora of other enriching activities. Active adult neighborhoods may provide appealing homes and amenities, but a Life Care community like Springmoor combines a vibrant lifestyle, extensive services, and a full continuum of healthcare on one campus.

What Happens If Health Needs Change After You Move In?

Springmoor’s Life Care model is built on the idea that future support should be available without leaving your home and the relationships you’ve built. Our Stewart Health Center provides onsite access to assisted living, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, and memory care, along with a neighborhood model of care that emphasizes smaller, more familiar home-like settings.

This continuity can be reassuring for spouses as well as adult children. If one spouse needs more support than the other, they remain on the same campus. If a temporary rehabilitation stay is needed after surgery or illness, onsite services facilitate returning to independent living. If memory support becomes necessary, the transition can happen within a familiar setting. No community can eliminate every challenge of aging, but a well-structured healthcare continuum can make these challenges less disruptive.

How Does Springmoor Compare with Other Senior Living Options?

What Questions Should You Ask Before Choosing a Retirement Community?

AARP recommends asking questions about a community’s financial strength, monthly fees, emergency systems, resident satisfaction, and the level of resident input. Families should understand the difference between the services provided to those in independent living, assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, and rehab.

On your personalized tour, you’ll learn more about the wide range of floor plans we offer, how the members of our community make their residence their own, what services are included in monthly fees, the benefits of our wellness programs, and how transitions to higher levels of care are coordinated. We recommend that you also review disclosure statements, contract types, refund provisions, financial obligations, and healthcare access details with qualified advisors to help ensure that Springmoor is the best fit for you, your family, and your financial situation.

Why Is Raleigh Such a Great Place to Retire?

Raleigh offers many of the qualities older adults tend to value: access to major healthcare systems, universities, arts and cultural institutions, more than 200 beautiful parks, numerous shopping areas, top-notch restaurants, and faith communities of all kinds. For people who have spent years building connections in the Triangle, choosing a CCRC in Raleigh allows them to maintain these relationships while gaining more support and security—as well as relief from household chores.

Springmoor’s northwest Raleigh location is especially appealing because it feels peaceful without being isolated. The wooded setting creates a sense of retreat, while nearby city conveniences remain easily accessible. For retirees who want the best of both worlds—quiet daily living and an active Raleigh lifestyle—this combination is a major advantage.

Is Springmoor the Best Continuing Care Retirement Community in the Triangle Area?

We think so! Springmoor offers the active, independent lifestyle many older adults seek, as well as a full continuum of healthcare should it be needed. Our community is often at the top of the list for families comparing life plan communities in the Triangle area for a myriad of reasons: our long history, a beautifully landscaped campus with mature trees replete with birds and other wildlife, a holistic wellness program that offers something for everyone, onsite healthcare, and a well-deserved reputation for being home to the friendliest group people you’ve ever met.
