From the Desk of the Executive Director: Safety on our Campus

At Springmoor, the safety of all members of our community has always been one of our highest priorities. Regarding maintaining the health and safety of residents, we employ numerous strategies on an ongoing basis to prevent falls, respond rapidly to medical emergencies, help ensure comprehensive fire prevention and response, and provide top-quality, 24/7 campus security. Staff receive safety training, including reviewing protocols, and our management team actively encourages open communication about any safety concerns.

Our commitment to environmental safety includes sturdy handrails, non-slip flooring, bright lighting, and hazard-free walkways both inside and outside of our buildings. Our Grounds Team works diligently to ensure that outdoor paths are clear of ice, leaves, cracks, and other tripping hazards.

We’re proud of the dedication of our medical staff, who are available onsite 24 hours a day. Our clinic offers acute and chronic care residents can access without leaving our Raleigh campus, and our onsite pharmacy provides medications quickly and conveniently (and even offers delivery!).

Springmoor employees assiduously follow strict health codes for food storage and preparation in our kitchens and dining rooms. In addition to offering vaccinations on campus, we maintain plans to contain any outbreaks of contagious illness. Disease control and illness prevention have always been a paramount concern on our campus; post-pandemic we’re more prepared than ever before.

While much of our focus is naturally centered on the health and well-being of our residents, it is equally important that we provide a safe environment for the dedicated employees who care for our residents each day. In addition to being inherently important, the well-being of our team directly contributes to the quality of service and care they provide to the members of our community.

Each year, organizations across the country participate in National Safe + Sound Week, which took place in 2026 from August 10–16. Sponsored by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the National Safety Council, this initiative encourages employers of all sizes to evaluate and strengthen workplace safety and employee wellness programs.

As a CCRC (Continuing Care Retirement Community) committed to continuous improvement, Springmoor strives to proactively identify and manage potential workplace hazards before they cause injury or illness. This identification process often begins with simply paying close attention to the world around us.

As part of our ongoing improvement efforts, we recently welcomed Eastern Alliance to our campus to conduct a comprehensive safety and risk assessment. Their team evaluated our facilities, operations, and workplace practices and will soon share their findings and recommendations with us. These insights will help us identify additional opportunities to enhance safety for both our employees and our residents.

Springmoor remains committed to an unwavering focus on what is best for all those who make our community their home. Central to this objective is a deliberate effort to view every issue through the lens of the resident experience. By maintaining this perspective, staff can better understand, anticipate, and meet the evolving needs of both current and future residents. This mindset ensures responsive decision making and enhances the quality of life across our campus.

Creating a safe life plan community is a shared responsibility. I encourage all residents to continue being our eyes and ears throughout campus. If you notice a potential safety concern — whether it is a tripping hazard, an obstruction, equipment in need of repair, or an unsafe practice — please bring it to the attention of the appropriate department head or feel free to contact me directly. Many of our best improvements have come from observations and suggestions made by residents and staff alike.

Springmoor is well positioned to pursue thoughtful improvements and meaningful progress, while remaining grounded in the values and traditions that define who we are. In the near future, we anticipate advancing several key initiatives, including modernizing our internal phone system, replacing multiple elevators, expanding Wi-Fi access campus-wide, and continuing the renovation of our skilled nursing facility. These efforts reflect our ongoing commitment to enhancing both the quality of life and the level of service that our residents deserve to enjoy.

Together, we can continue fostering an environment where everyone feels safe, supported, and cared for. This objective is equally important for independent, assisted living, and memory care residents; those in rehab or skilled nursing care; and all team members. Special thanks to independent residents and employees for partnering with us as we pursue excellence in every aspect of life at Springmoor.
