We are happy to preview a new Facebook weekly post that will introduce you to the residents and staff at Springmoor. There is always something fun happening … in the neighborhood!
This week we introduce to you – Betty and Hugh Charlton. We had lots of laughs as we played our 20 questions game with them. Stay tuned for more fun in the weeks ahead!
If you were a professional athlete, what sport would you play?
Betty: Basketball
Hugh: Touch Football
I could not live without _____________________ (one word answer).
Betty: With a little thought, Hugh says “Careful now!” and she replies “HUUUGH”
Hugh: With a very quick reply, “Betty! After all we’ve been together for 63 years!”
What is the farthest location from here that you have traveled?
From both: Italy
What is your comfort food?
Betty: Soup
Hugh: Steak
If your friends gave you a nickname, what would it be?
Betty: Betty Boops
Hugh: Little Blue, because my dad was always known as Big Blue.
What was your favorite book when you were a child?
Betty: Little Women
Hugh: The Biography of Robert E. Lee
What do you want to be when you grew up?
Betty: An interior decorator, but my dad wanted me to be a tree surgeon because I was always up in the trees!
Hugh: An airline pilot so that I could fly.
If you could be any animal, what would you be?
Betty: A Persian cat
Hugh: An eagle
What’s your favorite dessert?
Betty: Pecan pie
Hugh: Ice cream
If you could live one day in the life of any profession, what would it be?
Betty: Pop singer
Hugh: An actor
What is something about tomorrow that you are excited for?
Betty: The arrival of a new chair for the bedroom
Hugh: A walk to Harris Teeter with Rupert (the pug)
Where did you go on your last vacation?
Betty and Hugh: A sailing trip in the Chesapeake Bay and a trip to Maggie Valley
What was your favorite subject in school?
Betty: English Literature
Hugh: Physics and Literature
Where were you born?
Betty: Fredrick, MD
Hugh: Richmond, VA (in the same hospital where Betty did her clinical study for her nursing degree)
 Have you ever been horseback riding?
Betty: Yes, once!
Hugh: Yes! I love to ride farm animals.
Can you sew on a button?
Betty: Certainly!
Hugh: Sure. My aunts taught me to sew and knit.
What is your favorite sandwich?
Betty: A Reuben
Hugh: A ham sandwich
Have you ever won anything? If so, what did you win?
Betty: Yes, lots of things! Roses, vases, a book, and candy through the garden club.
Hugh: Yes! I won pin-the-tail-on-the-donkey, and the prize was candy.
What is your favorite thing at Springmoor?
Betty: The people
Hugh: The people. They are so interesting and helpful. Oh, and the quietness of the campus.
Have you ever been camping? Where?
Betty: Oh my, yes! We hitchhiked out west before the children. And with the children, we all slept in a tent on many trips out west.
Hugh: We canoed down the Potomac River too.
